What does the Living Will consist of?
We put at your disposal a very simple form to leave your instructions on the care or treatments you want or do not receive and to appoint the representatives to act as interlocutors before the responsible medical team. This document can be made by a person of legal age, capable and free, and with the same freedom and requirements, its content can be revoked or modified. Keep in mind that if the patient cannot and there is no advance directive document, the relatives will intervene.
You will have a complete and exhaustive advice whenever you need it, since we solve all the possible doubts that may arise before creating your living will and while you fill it out.
We take care of registering the document in the register of advance directives of the Comunidad Autónoma de Galicia, and we will even electronically send a copy of them to the registry if this mechanism is enabled.

The living will in Galicia is called a prior instructions document
The living will in Galicia is a document through which any person expresses his or her will in advance about the medical care and treatments that may be required in the future so that this will be known and respected in the moment when you do not have the capacity to manifest it.
In Galicia, the living will can be done by any person of legal age who is qualified and acts freely. Contrary to how it happens in other autonomous communities, in Galicia minors cannot process the living will by themselves, in which case it will be, only the father, mother or legal guardian of the minor can decide on how to act and what to do about of the medical care to be applied to the minor when the time comes.
This document can be created by filling in an available template, in paper or digital format. According to the regulations, there are 3 ways to process the living will in Galicia and thus register the previous instructions: before a notary, before three witnesses and before the Galician registry staff of previous instructions. In the case of witnesses, they must be of legal age and with full capacity to act, in addition to which at least two may not have a relationship of kinship until the 2nd due to consanguinity or affinity or be related by patrimonial relationship with the grantor person.
At the time of processing the living will or the previous instructions, there is the possibility of appointing a representative, so that, where appropriate, he or she serves as an interlocutor with the healthcare team that provides assistance to ensure compliance with previous instructions. In addition, a substitute representative may also be appointed, who will exercise his functions in the event of death, incapacity or inability to consult with the representative.
In order to process the living will in Galicia it is necessary to provide the following documentation:
- Enrollment request for advance directive document.
- Original advance directive document signed by all parties.
- Photocopy of the IDs or passports of the participants: grantor, witnesses (if any) and representative (if any).
- Responsible statement signed by at least two of the witnesses.
- Document accrediting the representative (if any), accepted and signed by the representative.
In Galicia, you can obtain more information and process the document of previous instructions in the Galician Registry of previous instructions or in any of its units. It may also be presented at any center of the Galician Health Service where it will be transferred to the corresponding Registry unit; or through any of the means provided in Law 39/2015, of October 1, of the common administrative procedure of public administrations.

What regulations exist to regulate the Living Will in Galicia?
In Galicia, the living will, after regulation at the national level in 2002, is managed and processed based on a Law published by the Xunta de Galicia in 2005.
Law 3/2005, of March 7, amending Law 3/2001, of May 28, regulating informed consent and the clinical history of patients.
Law 12/2013, of December 9, on guarantees of health benefits.
Decree 159/2014, of December 11, which establishes the organization and operation of the Galician Registry of prior instructions on health care and treatment.
Law 5/2015, of June 26, on the rights and guarantees of the dignity of terminally ill people.
